I bought my plane tickets and travel insurance today! It's a touch early to book - there are still 204 days until my program starts - but as you may know, I'm pretty big on planning and international travel is certainly no exception!
It's the first time I've ever booked anything with a travel agent, although I do have vague memories of sitting in a travel agency while my mother booked things. I decided to go with Travel CUTS because they have a partnership with BaseCamp Volunteer Abroad. In fact, once my registration was confirmed for the program, I got an email from one of the girls at the Travel CUTS on campus who ended up helping me out a lot.
I suppose it's actually real now - or at least non-refundable! I'm excited to have my little ticket jacket, which will be stuck to my whiteboard for the next few months. I'm not looking forward to the itinerary (leaving Edmonton at 6:45 means getting up very early) but hey, I've never been to Houston so perhaps I'll enjoy my lengthy layover there.
Things are just getting started on the fundraising front, but I'm definitely very enthusiastic about it. I'm actually finding myself making lists of ideas and contacts instead of studying for my exams, so I'm glad that I've gotten the ball rolling and can now focus on my three finals. I also sent my first letter to a potential sponsor today and have concrete plans for two events - details to come!
