Baking A Difference: Bake Sale and Cookie Crumbles

Today was my very first fundraising event: the bake sale. I set myself a modest goal ($50) and an ambitious goal ($75). Clearly, I underestimated the tastiness of the baked goods and the generosity of the students, faculty, staff and visitors at the Campus Saint-Jean; the grand total for the day was $194.44! I'd like to extend heartfelt thanks to those who baked things, bought things, sat at the table while I ran to get things, etc. I will definitely have a least one more bake sale this term - I really can't believe how well it went!

My timing seems to have worked itself out, because when I got home from the bake sale, I found order forms in my mailbox for the next fundraiser: selling cookie dough (among other things) with a Canadian company called Cookie Crumbles.

I'm really excited to be able to run a fundraiser through Cookie Crumbles because it's a locally-owned company that was founded in 1997 by a couple of moms in Meadow Lake. The cookie dough I'm ordering is made in Fort Saskatchewan, and everything is peanut/nut free!

All the information you might need about the products (even all the ingredients!) is available on the Cookie Crumbles website, but I'll give you the rundown here:

- each pail of cookie dough is 2kg and yields 5-8 dozen tasty cookies
- the cookie dough can be stored in the fridge or freezer, and can be thawed and re-frozen
- each bag of dry muffin mix yields 5 dozen easy muffins

Pails of cookie dough cost $20; you can choose from sugar cookie, double chocolate chip, gingersnap, oatmeal, oatmeal chocolate chip and oatmeal raisin.

Bags of muffin mix cost $16; you can choose from bran or oatmeal. The idea is that you can easily make the muffins your own by adding chocolate chips, bananas, nuts, fruit, etc. Because the mixes are dry, you can also make them healthier by using applesauce instead of oil.

I'm still working out some timeline and pickup details, but I would like to submit the completed order by January 31st; that way, everything will be ready before reading break. If you'd like to order some tasty cookie dough (or muffin mix, or drink crystals, or a cookbook) please send me an email!

De Bons Biscuits* Pour Une Bonne Cause / Good Cookies* for a Good Cause

*et d'autres créations délicieuses / and other delicious creations

It's really happening: The very first fundraising event! As you may or may not be able to tell from the poster, I'm holding a bake sale at the Campus Saint-Jean on Monday, January 17th from 10 AM to 4 PM. Highlights will include cupcakes from Flirt Cupcakes on Whytevegan cookies from wonderful roommate, other cupcakes from this lovely girlcinnamon buns from a cinnamon-bun champ named Owen and delicious cookies I made with my darling mother.

I'm sure that everything will be super-tasty and invite you to bring some change on Monday so that you can find out for yourselves! I'm also looking for someone to cover the table while I pick up the cupcakes from Flirt at noon, and would greatly appreciate any last-minute baking donations. If you can help with either, please feel free to send me an email.

Salsa!

I am a person who relies heavily on lists, schedules and order, so it's very difficult for me to write this post because it's about the third fundraising event instead of the first. The insanity! Still, it's the first event for which I have all the details worked out, so here it is:

Salsa Night at On The Rocks: Send Stephanie To Nicaragua!

I'd heard a lot about the Thursday night salsa dancing at On The Rocks and thought it would be fun to use it as a fundraiser. While salsa is not one of the more traditional Nicaraguan dances, it definitely has a fun Latin American vibe. When I called, I was only slightly optimistic; On The Rocks is a pub on Jasper that seems to have something exciting going on every night of the week, so I wasn't sure if they'd appreciate my hijacking their Thursday night salsa party.

Luckily for us, they did! The lovely woman I spoke to was incredibly helpful and had the tickets designed and printed within roughly ten days. As you can see, she was extremely generous - the $10 that get you cover before 10PM, free salsa lessons at 8PM and a free drink all go directly to the fund-o-meter!

I've heard nothing but good things about On The Rocks, and I'm beyond stoked to have a fundraising party with a theme related to my trip. I hope to see you there!

Let the Fun[draising] Begin!

Fundraising ThermometerEarlier this winter, I emailed some of my extended family to ask that they consider giving me a donation instead of a gift this year - which is why my new fund-o-meter is no longer at zero! I'm very grateful to my grandparents for their donation. Thanks go to my darling Mumbly (and Dad) as well, who not only contributed but also stuck this book into my stocking. Muchas gracias!

During my lengthy and much-appreciated break from school, I've taken some time to work out the details for some of the fundraisers I started dreaming up a few weeks ago. I initially wanted to kick off the fundraising with a gift-wrapping station at a shopping centre and I was a little disappointed when that fell through, but the rest of my plans are really coming together! They include, in chronological order:

1. A bake sale at the Campus Saint-Jean (January 17th)
2. A cookie dough fundraiser through Cookie Crumbles (End of January)
3. A salsa night at On the Rocks (February 10th)

I'll post detailed information about each even as soon as I have all the logistics worked out. Keep your eyes peeled!
